Carnival Isn’t Just for Kids—Give Yourself Permission to Play!

Writer: Your English SpaceYour English Space

It’s Carnival season! 🎭

The kids are running around in costumes, tossing confetti, and eating way too many sweets. Maybe you’ve even helped paint their faces or made last-minute fixes to a princess dress or superhero cape.

But let’s be honest—moms wear masks too.

Not the fun, sparkly Carnival kind, but the invisible ones. The “I’ve got everything under control” mask. The “I’ll take care of myself later” mask. The “I don’t have time” mask.

And just like in Carnival, where people become someone else for a day, we sometimes forget who we really are underneath all the responsibilities of motherhood.

But here’s the thing: you are more than just a mom.

What Happens When the Mask Stays On Too Long?

Think about it—kids love Carnival because they get to play, be silly, and try something new. But what about you? When was the last time you did something just for you?

Something that made you feel excited, curious, or even a little bit outside your comfort zone?

For a lot of moms, learning English is one of those things they want to do… but it always gets pushed to “later.”

  • “I’ll do it when I have more time.”

  • “I’m too tired.”

  • “I’ll focus on my kids/family/job/dog first.”

Sound familiar?

But just like kids don’t wait for the “perfect” moment to have fun, you don’t need to wait for the perfect moment to start improving your English.

Take Off the Mask (Even for Just 5 Minutes a Day!)

I know what you’re thinking—“But I really don’t have time!”

And I get it. Life is busy. But learning English doesn’t have to be a big, overwhelming commitment.

Here are a few fun, no-pressure ways to practice English without adding stress to your day:

🎭 Sing a silly song in English with your kids – Make it a game! Who can sing the loudest? The silliest? The fastest?

🎭 Read a short English story together – Even if it’s just one page before bed.

🎭 Watch a short video in English while cooking dinner—no subtitles, just for fun!

🎭 Try saying a few words in English while getting dressed – Pretend you're part of a Carnival play!

🎭 Write down one thing you’re grateful for in English each day – A tiny habit that helps with both language and mindset!

What’s One Small Thing You Can Do for Yourself This Week?

Carnival is about celebrating, having fun, and stepping into a new role—even if just for a moment.

So, what if this week, you stepped into the role of “English Learner”—even just for five minutes?

And remember: you don’t need to be perfect, and you don’t need to do it alone. Just take off the mask for a moment and let yourself try.

Happy Carnival! 🎉🎭

P.S. I know you can do it all, but if you'd like extra support and guidance on improving your English, setting the example for your child, and helping them learn to speak English naturally from a young age, I have what you need!
